Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce that the final program for the Fall 2002 Internet2 Member Meeting in Los Angeles, October 27-30 is now available at
http://www.internet2.edu/activities/php/agenda.php?session_event_id=122
I also want to call your attention to the deadline of this Thursday, October 3, for early registration and for the hotel block at the Wilshire Grand. We were able to secure rooms at an excellent rate, which will no longer be available after the cutoff. We will have a prize drawing of a digital camera for those registering by Thursday. Lodging information and registration are at

The final program includes over 40 track sessions, numerous working group and steering committee meetings, BOFs, and presentations from Internet2's international partners. Highlights include:
- The opening plenary on Monday will feature a panel of presidents from three Internet2 member institutions, all members of the UCAID Board of Trustees. President Steven Sample from USC, President Larry Faulkner from the University of Texas at Austin, and President Diana Natalicio from the University of Texas at El Paso will share their views of the impact of Internet2's work on the future of higher education in this country and globally. The panel will be followed by a live demo of Virtual Los Angeles, an urban simulation designed at UCLA.
- Tuesday morning, a live, multi-site, interactive demonstration of surgery will serve as the launch for the California Orthopaedic Research Network (CORN). Several California medical schools will be connected to CORN, which is part of CENIC.
- Tuesday afternoon's visit to the USC campus will include advanced applications demos at the Davidson Conference Center, the Interactive Media Systems Center and the Robert Zemeckis Center. See http://apps.internet2.edu/html/fall2002-demos.html
- Tuesday evening, "Cultivating Communities: Dance in the Digital Age" will take place at the Bing Theater, following a light refreshment break. This performance event is a showcase of regional dance and music around the country using low-latency interactive audio and video. Live performers on stage will interact with performers at remote locations in real-time. See

- At Wednesday's plenary, a leader in immersive environments and technologies of presence, Scott Fisher from the University of Southern California, will share his work and vision with attendees.
- On Wednesday afternoon, a distributed digital film festival will take place, featuring films by students at member universities with live interactive critiques of their work from award-winning filmmakers. See http://apps.internet2.edu/html/digitalfilmfestival.html
The program is greatly enhanced by the fastest and most capable network yet supporting a Member Meeting. Meeting attendees and presenters will enjoy 10gbps at both the hotel and on campus during the meeting. Cisco SystemsÂ’ loan of two of their new 12400 Series routers was instrumental in creating this capability. A record number of poster sessions will be available for viewing throughout the meeting, and a Welcome Reception on Monday evening at the hotel will give you a chance to make contact with your colleagues.
So, register now! As always, the Member Meeting is an excellent opportunity to make contact and make progress on many important activities. I look forward to seeing you in Los Angeles.
