Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that the preliminary program for the Spring 2002 Member Meeting is now available at http://www.internet2.edu/activities/php/agenda.php?session_event_id=103 . The program includes over 30 track sessions, 20 tutorials, workshops, BOFs and open working group meetings, and another 20 private meetings of various working groups, task forces, and constitencies within the Internet2 membership. The Program Committee received over 50 submissions for track sessions, which, coupled with the number of non-track sessions is a telling indication of the amount and diversity of the work we're doing. I encourage you to circulate this announcement.

Here are a few highlights of the meeting:

- A keynote address by Howard Schmidt, Vice Chair of the Critical Infrastructure Protection Board at 10:30am on Wednesday, May 8. Mr. Schmidt's address will be followed by a panel of members speaking on network security issues for the Internet2 community
- An open meeting of the Network Planning and Policy Advisory Council at 4:00pm on Monday, May 6
- Presentations on current activities with some of Internet2's International MOU Partners on Monday, May 6 from 1:30pm-5:00pm
- A birds-of-a-feather session on "Making the Case for Investments in Advanced Networking" from noon-1:00pm Wednesday, May 8. This BOF will feature brief talks by several Internet2 members and a moderated discussion on strategies for supporting continued investments in high-performance networking and advanced applications
- Broadcasts of several keynote talks at the CENIC 2002 meeting in San Diego, California
- A selected number of advanced applications demos, available from Monday evening through Wednesday noon. The demos will be located near where meals will be provided, allowing for easy viewing during lunches and breaks
- Poster sessions featuring current work underway at several Internet2 Corporate Members and International partner organizations
- An "Internet2 101" tutorial on Monday, May 6 from 1:00pm-3:00pm, which will provide a basic overview of Internet2 technologies and current projects and initiatives
- A Welcome Reception on Monday, May 6 from 6:00pm-7:30pm where attendees can network and interact with congressional and federal agency representatives

With respect to making travel arrangements, please note that there are open working group meetings starting as early as Sunday afternoon, May 5, and tutorials begin on Monday morning. As details for the meeting sessions are confirmed, the program will be updated. The final program will be published on April 12.

If you haven't already, please register for the Member Meeting at http://www.internet2.edu/activities/html/spring02-registration.html . The early registration cutoff is Monday, April 15, and online registration will end on Wednesday, May 1.

I hope to see you in Arlington for a great meeting!

Laurie
