Fall 2012 Internet2 Member Meeting
When we gather next week in Philadelphia, our meeting theme will build upon concepts introduced at the Spring Member Meeting: Community. Innovation. Transformation.

Thanks to the outstanding job done by the Program Committee, this year’s meeting will feature 50 sessions; over 70 BoF, SIG and Working Meetings; and all of the opportunities to connect with the friends and colleagues who this meeting brings together. Full program information is available online.

General Session Highlights
Internet2 is pleased to host a number of excellent General Session speakers from around our community at this upcoming meeting.
- On Monday, we welcome Sam Pitroda, Advisor to the Prime Minister of India on Public Information Infrastructure & Innovations and
John Sexton, President of New York University and Internet2 Board of Trustees Member. Each will offer his thoughts on the Importance of a Global Perspective for the US Research and Education Community, with time for an audience Q&A .
- On Tuesday, Farnam Jahanian, Assistant Director for the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Directorate at the National Science Foundation will lead things off, followed by a live performance demonstrating
LOLA (Low Latency audio/video): Real Time Musical Interaction over Advanced Networks. The LOLA demonstration team includes Roberto Díaz, President and CEO, Curtis Institute of Music;
Claudio Allocchio, Senior Technical Officer, GARR the Italian Academic and Research Network; Marjorie Bagley, Associate Professor of Violin, University of North Carolina Greensboro; Dan Nichols, Internet2 Multimedia Specialist, Northern Illinois University; and Cheng-Hou Lee, Assistant Professor of Cello, Northern Illinois University.
- Wednesday's session will feature Dr. Nancy Spinner, Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, who will speak on the Clinical Utility of Genomics Sequencing; and
Jim Bottum, Vice Provost for Computing & Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, Clemson University, who will moderate a panel on Friction Free Science in a Programmable World.
New to Internet2?
If your organization has just joined Internet2, or this is your first Internet2 Member Meeting, you may find these sessions helpful in getting to know our community and learning about Internet2.
- The Internet2 Advanced Network Services Today session will provide an overview of recent activities with the Internet2 network and the services deployed to meet the networking needs of the US R&E community, including researchers, campuses, and regional networks. Topics will include an overview and update of Internet2 advanced network services, Internet2 network operations, the Internet2 network architecture, and the policies and governance of the network and services.
- The Internet2 NET+ Services General Update session will provide an update on all NET + Services including InCommon, Cloud Services, Video Services and Middleware. Updates for all the NET + Cloud Service Partnerships that were announced at the Spring Member Meeting will also be included.
- The CTO Update will offer an update on the office of the Internet2 CTO, including the technical support provided to all users of the facilities and services of Internet2, the technical strategies devised for moving each Internet2 service forward, and the development of an architecture for Internet2 services that will help identify gaps and maintain coherence.
- The Strategies for the Future of Internet2 Member Relations, Marketing and Communication session will provide an update on current and future member relations and programs, including: membership, industry and global programs. We will also review plans for our new annual meetings and events, and provide updates on a number of important initiatives including: progress towards new member collaboration and communications vehicles– from the overhaul and redesign of the Internet2 website – to new strategies and mediums to more effectively communicate with members.
Internet2 NET+ Services Information Area
The Internet2 NET+ Services Information Area, is a new one-stop venue to collect information regarding Internet2 NET+ Services and programs. Take a moment to explore the expanding portfolio of commercial cloud services tailored for higher education, common applications and community developed offerings that are available to all Internet2 members and soon a growing list of US and International education institutions through the expanding NET+ Partner Program. These services are an excellent resource to accelerate scientific research, advance education delivery, improve student engagement and transform university administrative functions.
