Hi all, I wanted this group especially to be aware of this competition we just announced - Internet2 is seeking proposals for augmented reality development projects in the research and education space. The winning proposal will be selected at the upcoming Technology Exchange and will receive a Microsoft Hololens. There is a short fuse on this application timeline, and we expect a small pool of applications, so please consider submitting a proposal. The proposals will be judged by some of your peers from this group.

LAST CHANCE TO SUBMIT LIGHTNING TALKS - DUE FRIDAY, AUGUST 19

All tracks are reserving space for Lightning Talks to allow folks with late-breaking topics an opportunity to ‘start the conversation’ while together in Miami. In general, lightning talks are very short (5- to 10- minutes) on a topic of your choice – problems and solutions you want to share, anything interesting or timely, or even a bit off the wall. Send in your submission by Friday, August 19 to be considered. Affected tracks include:

1. Advanced Networking (Monday and Wednesday)
2. Trust & Identity (Tuesday)
3. Information Security (Wednesday)
4. Research Track 

If interested in giving a Lightning Talk, please submit a proposal here. Other highlights include:

• NEW! FUN OPTIONAL EVENING ACTIVITIES on Sun, Mon and Tues after sessions: including Open Office Hours, a team Brainteaser Competition during Monday night reception and behind-the-scenes tour of the New World Symphony, located in nearby South Beach, on Tuesday evening.
• REGISTER NOW: Best rates are in effect until August 26. Do you have an up and coming colleague who would benefit from mentorship and training and hearing the latest and greatest technical content from the community? Encourage them to register and get involved! TechEX is a great opportunity to jump into and directly impact technical and IT related topics.
• In addition to the full program available, registration is open now for two co-located meetings - REFEDs and the 16th Annual Global Lambda Grid (GLIF) meeting. Please note: if you are planning to attend Advance CAMP, programming runs through noon Thursday, Sept. 29, so please make your travel plans accordingly.

Augumented Reality for R&E Contest: Winner Receives Use of Microsoft Hololens

Virtual and augmented reality are important emerging technologies for higher education. To encourage development of innovative applications in this space, Internet2 is announcing a contest to submit the best proposal for a new research and education related augmented reality development project, with the winner to be selected at the Technology Exchange. The winning institution will receive exclusive use of a Microsoft Hololens for the duration of the development project. Find out more about the contest here. To submit your proposal, click here.

Gender Diversity Scholarship Available

Nominations for Gender Diversity Initiative Scholarships will be accepted through August 15. Scholarships will be awarded to women, including graduate students, who work at an Internet2 member organization (including higher education, R&E network member, affiliate or industry), and will be applied to registration, transportation and housing costs, with the goal that awardees will bring new technology ideas and strategies back to their institutions as well as receiving meaningful individual career development support.
