Looks as though the issue here is one of conflicting DOM libraries, which
would explain why you can't get it to work.
adoptNode returns null if you give it a document from another DOM
implementation than the source tree used. So my guess is you have a second
DOM library getting the way in there somewhere.
You'd need to be extremely careful to pull that off.
