The Franklin Institute presents:
The Human Brain ? Research and Rewards
Free Live Webcast Program

Target Audience: Students in grades 8 through 12

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

3:30 - 3:55PM EDT
Join Dr. Nancy Bonini, from the University of Pennsylvania and the
Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and Kerry Sautner from The Franklin
Institute for a student-friendly exploration of the human brain. See
how the Segway Human Transporter mimics the functionality of the
human brain. Examine preserved human brain cross-sections. Learn
about the field of neurogenetics, which is transforming our
understanding of the brain. Find out how research scientists spend
their days.

This program will prepare students to watch the Bower Symposium
(described below.) The Bower Symposium is a rare opportunity for
students to observe a professional science symposium. The content
may likely be too advanced, but a few minutes of the event provides
a valuable glimpse into the profession.

4:00 - 5:30PM EDT
All audiences are invited to the LIVE broadcast of The Franklin
Institute Bower Award Symposium
<http://www.fi.edu/tfi/exhibits/bower/04/04symposia.html>

Co-sponsored by The Franklin Institute and the David Mahoney
Institute for Neurological Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania

Dr. Seymour Benzer, recipient of the 2004 Bower Award and Prize for
Scientific Achievement in the field of Brain Research, will share
his "Adventures in Neurogenetics."
