World Rabies Day events have educated 182 million people and vaccinated 7.7 million animals worldwide!
The mission of World Rabies Day is to raise awareness about the impact of human and animal rabies, how easy it is to prevent it, and how to eliminate the main global sources. Even though the major impact of rabies occurs in regions of the world where many needs are present, rabies should no longer be neglected. The tools and technology for human rabies prevention and dog rabies elimination are available.
Students will be joined by Dr. S. Chinny Krishna, Blue Cross of India, Chennai India; and Erin Moore, DVM, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Health.

Innovation, Technology, and Extremism: With Scott Carpenter of Google Ideas
Target Audience: Students in Grades 8-10
Date: Sept. 28th
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 pm EDT
Cost: Free!
Requirements: Access to H.323 videoconference equipment and connection to state/regional/national advanced network.

In a hyper-connected world, technology is not just a ubiquitous part of daily life. It also serves as a driver of social innovation in our globalized economy and a conduit for violent extremism. During this discussion with presenter Scott Carpenter, students will have the opportunity to discuss the work of Google’s think/do tank, explore careers in technology, and see how having knowledge of global issues can help them in their chosen field.
Scott Carpenter is deputy director of Google Ideas, Google's think/do tank, where he is responsible for driving its illicit networks portfolio as well as contributing to its strategy in three other key areas: confronting violent extremism, expanding internet access in closed societies and utilizing technology to drive civic innovation. Prior to joining Google, Scott founded and directed Project Fikra as the Keston Family Fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, where he remains an adjunct fellow. Previously, Scott served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Near East Affairs where he helped conceive and implement the Middle East Partnership Initiative before being named Coordinator for the Broader Middle East and North Africa Initiative. His other roles in government include director of governance for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq and Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Human Rights and Democracy. He founded and co-directed the International Republican Institute’s Europe office before that. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
