Started in 1998, CANS continues its focus on working together to promote interoperability and seamless networking – and seamless collaboration in research and education.  Particular emphases this year include Network Research and “clean slate” efforts such as the NSF GENI Project; IPv6 Migration and Deployment; Videoconferencing and Telepresence Exchanges; Federated Identity and Authenticated Access; integration of smart phones and tablets (such as the Apple iPhones/iPads/iPods) into university courses and infrastructure; Content-Centric Networks (CCN); and Advanced Applications.  An addition this year will be a special session bringing together US CIOs with their Chinese counterparts, addressing issues such as how to support Remote Education and “Campus Abroad”.  

The hosts for CANS 2011 this year are CERNET, the Chinese Education and Research Network, and Yunnan University, a CERNET member and site of the CERNET regional PoP.

Nearby, for those who would like to take advantage of being in a unique part of the world, is Shangi-La, and the Stone Forest, among other attractions.
