Friends - a quick note to those of you who have expressed interest in international research and education networking topics, including international R&E network connectivity, collaborations and developments: the upcoming Internet2 Member Meeting (early bird registration ends tonight! at: http://events.internet2.edu/2008/spring-mm/), will have a number of sessions related to international issues that may be of interest to you: A timeline of some of these sessions is here: http://international.internet2.edu/resources/events/2008/2008SMMintlevents.html Two particular sessions of note: Monday, 21 April 2008: 8:30 - noon Internet2 Special Interest Group on Emerging National Research and Education Networks (NRENs): an agenda for this meeting has been posted (see the above URL). Updates on R&E networking efforts in South Asia, the Caribbean and the middle east will be given along with talks about REN-related initiatives at the US National Institutes of Health and the National Academies. There will be an opportunity to participate via video-conference for those who are interested. Information on this will be on the SIG agenda page shortly. Tuesday, 22 April 2008: 8:45 - 10:00 a.m. Internet2 Member Meeting Track Session: International Update: International Connectivity for Internet2 Members: This session will provide an overview of the vast reach of R&E networks throughout the world available and their capabilities available to Internet2 members. Information about how this reach is achieved - through US National Science Foundation-funded international connectivity projects, through the partnership of over 50 R&E Networking Organizations (International MoU Partners) throughout the world and other projects- will be discussed. In addition, Internet2 member institution representatives will discuss the relevance of the global R&E network fabric to their institutions' efforts to build campuses in other countries and build collaborations between their faculty and international counterparts. This session will be webcast.
