State University System of Florida Joins Unizin
Consortium welcomes first university system
AUSTIN, July 17, 2015 – Unizin is proud to welcome the State University System of Florida (SUSF) today. The new addition brings the Consortium up to 22 higher education institutions and nearly doubles the organization’s current student scope.
“This is truly a momentous day, as it doubles the number of institutions in our consortium,” said Robin Littleworth, Chief Operating Officer at Unizin. “Not only will the State University System enjoy the membership benefits, but we look forward to their perspectives and contributions to the consortium going forward.”
SUSF is the first state system to join Unizin. Its 12 campuses (including current Founding Investor, the University of Florida) represent nearly 350,000 students. Currently, five SUSF institutions are using the Unizin-supported LMS. Unizin will assist the other campuses with their pilot and migration to Canvas.
“Florida is fully committed to being a national leader in the distance learning arena,” said Ned Lautenbach, chair of the Board of Governors’ Online and Innovation Committee. “This initiative advances that commitment and positions our state to stay on the cutting-edge in this fast-changing and exciting area.”
The Consortium exists to support faculty and universities by ensuring that they stay in control of the content, data and relationships they create.
The Unizin consortium operates as a university-owned and directed 501(c)3 nonprofit providing standards-based digital learning and teaching infrastructure for its members. Unizin consists of 11 founding members and 22 higher education institutions. The Unizin consortium provides a common technological platform delivered by Internet2. Unizin is headquartered in Austin, Texas. For more on Unizin, see www.unizin.org or email .
