MediaCore Adds Video Learning Platform to Internet2 NET+ Portfolio
MediaCore’s award-winning cloud video platform is now available to all higher education institutions as part of the new Internet2 NET+ ‘QuickStart
Process’
WASHINGTON, June 1, 2015—MediaCore today announced it has joined the
Internet2 NET+ portfolio, enabling universities to rely on modern Software-as-a-Service
(SaaS) cloud-based products to deliver video learning content across campuses.
The Internet2
NET+ MediaCore service, tailored for higher education institutions, is now in the early adopter phase of the NET+ initiative and therefore available
to all Internet2 higher education members. Due to increased demand for NET+ cloud services, MediaCore is the first NET+ service to be delivered to members via the new “QuickStart Process” — designed
to give institutions a fast track to subscribe to NET+ services before or during the NET+
service validation phase.
During QuickStart, cloud service providers make immediate commitments to more quickly provide security, accessibility,
usage terms and technology standards that research and education (R&E) institutions need for quick enterprise adoption.
Brown University is one of six campuses that will utilize NET+ MediaCore during the service validation process. The NET+ MediaCore Video Platform allows Brown — and any subscribing institution
— to host and manage a growing library of high-definition video content and deliver it to a wide range of devices in students’ hands, both on and off campus.
“The use of video at Brown is exploding,” said Catherine Zabriskie, Brown’s director of academic technology. “Video is integral to teaching, learning, and connecting with prospective students
and alumni, and sharing Brown’s academic work globally. A platform to organize and deliver video content was long overdue, and NET+ MediaCore is the welcome solution. MediaCore was a clear choice for Brown based on the clean user interface, deep integration
with NET+ Canvas — Brown’s Learning Management System — and seamless connection with video sharing platforms currently used by the University.”
The university is using NET+ MediaCore to host all of their video content — from different types of learning content and captured videos of visiting speakers to public-facing, marketing
videos. Notably, the platform has made it possible to easily share more than 2,000 university-licensed feature length movies with Liberal Arts students.
Brown authenticates and manages users with Internet2’s InCommon Single Sign-on and Grouper, which made fast and easy integration with MediaCore possible. And, seamless integration with
NET+ Canvas makes it easy for instructors to make content available directly within course modules.
“Students and faculty can produce, view, and manage videos based on their roles,” said Gillian Bell, project manager in Brown’s Computing and Information Services. “NET+ MediaCore roles
easily map to roles in Canvas and Grouper. MediaCore’s compatibility with Shibboleth allows single sign-on for a one-stop gateway to course tools in support of teaching and learning at Brown.”
“MediaCore helps hundreds of institutions around the world embrace video by making it easy for students and professors to record and share media content across all platforms and mobile
devices, while ensuring it is kept private and secure,” said Aidan Hornsby, MediaCore’s Marketing Manager. “We’re pleased to offer this supercharged video solution to Internet2 higher education members through the NET+ portfolio.”
Internet2 NET+ is an R&E community-driven initiative focused on providing secure, agile
and reliable mobility in the cloud to higher education’s diverse users. Through a rigorous peer-driven evaluation process, R&E institutions and cloud service providers work together to develop offerings that maximize deployment efficiencies and minimize the
business and legal challenges, financial costs, and technology risks of migrating from on-campus to cloud-based solutions.
As part of the NET+ QuickStart Process, MediaCore reviewed and accepted the standard higher education cloud service contract language that will enable campuses already familiar with NET+ contracts to review and accept
the service schedule more rapidly.
Webinars profiling how MediaCore has helped students and faculty at Brown make better use of video learning, and detailing the process of becoming a NET+ MediaCore early adopter will be
held June 23 at 11 a.m. ET and June 25 at 1 p.m. To register, visit MediaCore.com/internet2-webinar.
