Research & Education Network Leaders To Address Key Priorities at Winter Joint Techs Meeting Meeting to Focus on Emerging Technologies, Campus Networking, and Network Performance Measurement Ann Arbor, Michigan/Berkeley, California – December 18, 2009 – The Winter 2010 Joint Techs meeting, an international conference of network engineers, will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, January 31 to February 4, 2010, and hosted by the University of Utah. Since 1998, the Joint Techs conference, co-sponsored by the ESnet Site Coordinating Committee (ESCC) and Internet2, has brought together networking experts from around the world to share their know-how, present innovative strategies and work toward common solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing research and education networks. The Winter 2010 Joint Techs agenda – posted this week - will focus on three important areas: emerging technologies, performance measurement and monitoring, and campus networking. The Emerging Technologies track will feature various components of the National Science Foundation’s GENI project, as well as other network testbed projects, new bulk data transfer tools, identity management topics and cloud services for campuses and laboratories. The Performance Measurement and Monitoring track will cover multi-domain, end-to-end network measurement projects and tools—both IP-based, and circuit-based—and include discussions on a wide range of measurement and monitoring tools and use cases, as well as best practices in application, network and device performance tuning and diagnosis. User experience and secure access will also be addressed. In the Campus Networking track, topics include IPv6 deployment, DNSSEC deployments (both federally-mandated and other), IP Multicast, Voice over IP, quality of service for voice, video and other types of real-time communications, wireless networking, network and application security and other special network infrastructure needs. Representatives from the NSF Office of Cyberinfrastructure will present an update on the Foundations's strategic directions in advanced networking and associated research techologies for 2010. The conference will also present a range of tutorials, high-performance networking technology demonstrations and industry updates. As usual, Lightning Talks - under 5-minute presentations on any topic of interest to the presenter - will be solicited at the start of the event. In addition, participants are being invited to tour the renowned University of Utah Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute, an internationally recognized leader in visualization, scientific computing and image analysis. Registration is open. January 8, 2010 is the deadline for early registration discounts and hotel reservations. Click HERE to register. Please visit the Joint Techs website for registration or any information regarding the meeting. <http://events.internet2.edu/2010/jt-slc/> About University of Utah The University of Utah is the flagship institution of the Utah System of Higher Education. Founded in 1850, it is the first and largest public higher education institution in Utah, with more than 28,000 students and a campus comprising almost 1,500 acres in the eastern foothills of Salt Lake City. A major academic and research institution with an extensive health sciences center, the University offers majors in 72 subjects at the undergraduate level and more than 90 major fields of study at the graduate level including law, business, and medical schools. About ESnet ESnet is a high-speed network serving thousands of Department of Energy scientists and collaborators worldwide. A 20-year pioneer in providing high-bandwidth, reliable connections, ESnet enables researchers at national laboratories, universities and other institutions to communicate with each other using the collaborative capabilities needed to address some of the world's most important scientific challenges. Funded principally by DOE's Office of Science, ESnet services allow scientists to make effective use of unique DOE research facilities and computing resources, independent of time and geographic location. ESnet is managed by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. For more information: http://www.es.net/ About Internet2 Media Contact: |
