Merit Network to Present Workshop on Internet-based Television

Merit Network is pleased to present a one-day workshop on Internet-based
television distribution, or IPTV. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May
16, 2007, at the Michigan Information Technology Center in Ann Arbor.
Complete information and registration are available at:

http://www.merit.edu/events/iptv

The workshop is designed as a primer on the many evolving and unresolved
technical, policy and legal issues surrounding IPTV, particularly as they
effect educational institutions. Presentations and discussions will address
the following questions:

* How can IPTV be used as an alternative, or complement, to traditional
coaxial distribution of television channels?
* What projects are underway in higher education?
* What are the hurdles to obtaining entertainment and educational content for
IP broadcasting?
* What are the technical options for IPTV?
* What are the legal issues in IPTV?
* What are the most promising approaches to adopting IPTV for use in
educational institutions?

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet leaders in IPTV from across the
nation and to discuss their varied approaches to this evolving technology. A
full agenda is available at the Web site.

This event will be of special interest to college and university cable
television managers; network planners, engineers and technicians; and
administrators with responsibility for educational content distribution.

Registration for this event is open to the public. Registration is $495 for
representatives from Merit's Member and Affiliate Member organizations, and
$695 for others. A registration link is available at:
