SPRING 2004 INTERNET2 MEMBER MEETING IN ARLINGTON, VA TO BE NETCAST LIVE
Attendees can participate in an integrated communications trial with IM,
rich presence, automated location services and more

WASHINGTON, D.C. - April 19, 2004 -Internet2(R) announced that select
sessions from its Spring 2004 Member Meeting in Arlington, Va. will be
netcast live and archived for future viewing.  The Member Meeting will also
feature an integrated communications trial led by the Internet2 Presence and
Integrated Communications (PIC) Working Group.  More than 600
representatives from Internet2 university, affiliate and corporate members
will be in attendance at this year's Spring meeting to participate in more
than 30 sessions and 60 side meetings.  Topics covered will include evolving
network infrastructures, cooperative funding arrangements among federal
agencies, global e-science collaborations, and security on high-performance
networks, as well as presentations on advanced applications underway on
member campuses, deployment of middleware capabilities, and advancements in
the K-20 community.

Sessions to be netcast live include the opening plenary at 8:45 a.m. (EDT)
on April 20 featuring Douglas Van Houweling, Internet2 president and CEO,
and Steven G. Papermaster, member of The President's Council of Advisors on
Science & Technology and Chairman of PowerShift Ventures.  Papermaster will
address meeting attendees on the Administration's goals and plans for
broadband deployment and plans for a national innovation roadmap out of an
effort called the "Innovation Alliance."  Sangtae Kim, the newly named
director of Shared Cyberinfrastructure at the National Science Foundation,
will be introduced, and the latest Internet2 Land Speed Record award will be
presented during the opening plenary on April 20.  The closing plenary on
April 21 at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) features William Wulf, AT&T Professor of
Computer Science and University Professor at the University of Virginia and
President of the National Academy of Engineering, who will discuss global
issues that arise from ubiquitous broadband networks, detailing how the
networking community can help society examine and resolve those issues.
