FIRST LIVE DISTRIBUTED MUSICAL OVER INTERNET2 NETWORKS
The Technophobe & The Madman will combine music, video, text and
interactivity in the first live distributed musical over Internet2 networks
on February 20, 2001 beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST. Artists at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York and at NYU in New York City
will use the networks to perform collaboratively. This work was commissioned
by Harvestworks (http://www.harvestworks.org/) with funds from the New York
State Council on the Arts.
High-performance networks will not only provide the environment for the
distributed musical performance itself--collaborators also have used the
same networks over a six-month period to develop and rehearse this
large-scale multimedia piece. The performance will be viewed live by
audiences in auditoriums at NYU and at RPI. Beginning February 22, an
archived netcast version of the event will be available at:
