How did you build/deploy WS?  With the installer? Can you run the installer to make WS and see the server.xml tomcat file, see what the webapp dir it, and look at files to see if they are similar to what you have.  Know what I mean?

Okay I'm getting closer I've got remote_user populated and when I load the status page it gives me an internal server error, however taking out REMOTE_USER give me a status. I didn't find any security stuff in my web.xml (We have it configured for shibboleh login on the UI)

 

Any Ideas?

Okay looks like my web.xml somehow got overwritten by the ui version, so I'm no longer getting the error, but now it seems like the grouper-ws context is not even starting, no logging in grouper_errors.log and I'm not seeing stack traces in the catalina or localhost logs.

 

Where can I start to debug this?

I believe the above are actually on the ui layer, so any ideas as to why these errors might be showing up when trying to start grouper-ws? I would expect that they wouldn't be needed.
