Right, if you accept that your DB cant handle UTF-8 (e.g. in dev env), you can ignore that error, or if you want you can disable that warning by setting this in the grouper.properties
configuration.detect.utf8.problems = false
Though it would be nice to keep that at the default (true) in test/prod

Hi Chris,
I was talking about grouper (watched your video several times, BTW). This is the message I receive ..
Error: Cannot properly read UTF string from database: '¿¿¿¿¿¿¿', make sure your database has UTF tables and perhaps a hibernate.connection.url in grouper.hibernate.properties

There is nothing you need to do with Grouper except perhaps not test international characters J The Grouper installer will ask you about tomcat encodings, you can just keep that at utf-8 I believe
thanks

Good afternoon,
Although our production and newer ORACLE databases encode using UTF-8, the one I am using to develop the prototype uses WE8MSWIN1252. I need to go back through the install to the point where it asks if I want UTF-8 encoding. should I put ISO-8859-1 instead to cover what I see when I query the DB for its character set?
Linda
