A few questions to try to narrow down the problem:

Does groupA have many members that are groups (either directly or
indirectly)? If so, the issue may be related to many groupSets being
added.

No, groupA is just people.

Is groupB a factor in any composite (either directly or indirectly)? If
so, the issue may be related to many composite memberships being added
(possibly 150K for each composite group).

No, we don't use composites.

What do you have groups.updateLastMembershipTime set to?

groups.updateLastMembershipTime = false

Did you try analyzing all the grouper tables?

Not just before this, but I believe our DBAs do an analyze once a week.

Jim

Thanks!

What grouper version are you using exactly?

Suppose groupA has membership of 150K members.

I add groupA as a member to groupB.

That add takes several hours.

What's going on?
Is there any configuration that would speed it up?
Are any tables locked during the add?

Thanks,

Jim
