Ok, that might do the trick.

I see that the StemFinder will use the nameDB, I figure this is the column Name in the DB and be the system name, but does it also search for display names (I hope not) ? I haven’t seen any specific system method for display name search so I guess it must be used to show a user friendly name (like my use-case). The UI seems to use the display name for global searches though.

Stems (and groups and attribute names) have a system name and a display name.  Can you have the system name by 0101, and the display name be: 0101 Chemistry Department, or whatever you want?  Im not sure this is customizable in all parts of the UI, and Im not sure you would want that for all parts since ad hoc folders might have quite a lot of free form text that someone enters…

Thanks,

Chris

Subject: [grouper-users] Showing stem description with stem name

Hi,

I was wondering if it was possible to show the stem’s description as well as the stem’s name when browsing in the UI ? The use case we’re validating is the possibility to name the stems as department ID and have the full descriptive name in the description and then show both of them to the user since they aren’t familiar with their Departement ID.

Something that would look like this :

In media.properties I found the stem.display parameter, but haven’t been able to join two values (e.g. stem.display = displayExtention + “, “ + description). Can I put JEXL there like in the loaders ?

Thanks
