Hi Chris,

I am running:

Debian 3.1 (Linux 2.6.22.1.dl380 #1 SMP Thu Aug 2 10:44:26 CEST 2007
GNU/Linux)
Postgres 8.4.2 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)

I shall try out the workarounds and let you know how I get on.
