Grouper Users - Open Discussion List

Has anyone seen an error of the form shown below and figured out how  
to fix it?
I seem to get this only for group items and the memberships are being  
properly handled.
I happen to be using LDAP as the subject source - but I really don't  
think this matters.

the ldap entry for this subject is:

with lots of member and hasMember attributes
