Thanks.  Rank newbie error: running "ant ui" as user with insufficient privileges (plus maybe a little classpath confusion).  Up & running now.

Probably a classpath problem.  You need to make sure that catalina-ant.jar is included in your Java classpath.  Use something like:

export CLASSPATH=/Library/grouper-qs/

Got no clue why it's not finding it in the first place, so I'll leave that to the real pros.

From the last line, "class not found," looks like I'm missing bits of Ant.  I'm already prepared to be embarassed, so don't hesitate on that account.
