You can try UnboundID LDAP SDK for Java.
http://www.unboundid.com/products/ldap-sdk/

It has 3 license that you can choose from.
It implements RFC 4515, which is the replacement for RFC 2254.

You can look at the Filter documentation here

http://www.unboundid.com/products/ldap-sdk/docs/javadoc/com/unboundid/ldap/sdk/Filter.html

You can build filters using the Filter API and it makes sure they are escaped properly.

I am looking for open source java code to escape ldap search filters
according to rfc 2254.

Anyone have code you are willing to share or contribute ?

This is for https://bugs.internet2.edu/jira/browse/GRP-769
