By the way, with the help of Jim Fox, I was able to add a screenshot of the UW prototype-only mobile UI at the bottom of this page:


I can add more screenshots of that mobile UI if it would be considered helpful.

The mobile first approach is not something that we have implemented here on a regular basis yet, so I can't point to a specific project and say that this has worked for us. But the philosophy behind it makes sense to me and I think it's worth considering. Of course, no rules are set in stone, so one could treat this part of the process as an internal exercise (before any user testing takes place) just to help designers and developers think about the UI in a different way before attempting to address the large screen format.
