Btw, Im not sure, when you run the DDL, I think you can edit it and have the index be on a subset of the full length of the col, or Grouper might do that for you, you can try it J

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, it is only mysql, since the utf8 means that keys can only be that many bytes divided by how many bytes a char is…  and limits are run into…

Thanks,

Chris

Subject: [grouper-dev] database encoding for Grouper

I have a question about database encoding for Grouper database.

On the page, https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/Grouper/Grouper+book+-+Installation+of+core+components in  the Setting up the database , there is a caution about setting database encoding to utf8.  It looks like the statement is relevant to MySql but I wanted to verify that.  Here is the statement from the page.

In addition, do not attempt to set the database encoding (to utf8 for example) as this will cause error complaining of keys larger than 1000 bytes when installing the database schema.

We are planning on implementing our production grouper in a database shared with other applications and want to make sure this will not be an issue.

Thanks

Lynn
