9:00 am - 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time
*********************************************************** You are receiving this note because you registered for the InCommon Grouper Access Management Training Workshop, June 18 - 19, 2019, at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Here is some important information to make your experience productive and enjoyable.
We have created a wiki page that should answer most of your questions about location, parking, hotels, driving directions, and the like: https://spaces.at.internet2.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=150470796
***** Training Location University of Wisconsin - Madison Grainger Hall, Room 2510 975 University Avenue, Madison, WI
Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. CT, and the sessions will begin promptly at 9 a.m. There will be plenty of caffeine, breakfast snacks, lunch, and refreshment breaks.
***** Parking There is parking at Grainger Hall, although space is limited. There is a charge for parking, that varies by location. Typically, all day visitor parking is around $15/day. More spaces and parking on campus can be found at https://transportation.wisc.edu/visitor-parking/ and https://transportation.wisc.edu/campus-maps/
Hotels There are multiple hotels recommended by the UW Madison staff. See the wiki for further property details - distance from the training location, sample rates, and contact information.
***** Airport and Transportation See the wiki for details. Campus is easily served by the Dane County Regional airport. It takes around 15 minutes to travel there via automobile.
Before You Arrive and Workshop Virtual Machines
*** PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING A LAPTOP. ***
You will need to have either PuTTY client (for Windows) or SSH client (for Linux/Mac) and a web browser such as Chrome or Firefox. The training makes use of Virtual Machines (VMs), in this case derived from Amazon Marketplace Images (AMI) loaded on Amazon Web Services. The training team will provide access instructions later this week. In the meantime, please review Connecting to the AWS Training Environment and the Command Line Jumpstart for the GTE.
Also, you should have received an invitation to Slack. The private channel grouper-madison has been created for all of you fine folks. We’ll use that space as a primary place to communicate, collaborate, share useful links, etc. If you didn’t get the invitation for some reason, please let me know!.
***** Registration/Sign-In OBTAIN YOUR NAME BADGE and other important meeting materials outside the training room, which opens at 8:30 a.m. Please allow enough time to check in, browse the beverages, and get your laptop up and running. We will start promptly at 9:00 a.m.
CASUAL ATTIRE is suggested. All software used is thread-safe, so steel-toed boots, hard hats, and leather gloves are strictly optional.
BEVERAGES AND LUNCH: We do *not* provide a full breakfast in the morning, although we do endorse the concept that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That said, coffee, tea, soft drinks and water will be available, along with a light breakfast and a mid-morning snack. Lunch *is* provided as part of your registration and there will be an afternoon snack break, as well.
As hinted above, we like to eat (a lot). The Internet2 staff and trainers will be heading out after class on Tuesday for tasty bites and beverages. You’re all welcome to join (note that this fun outing is not included in the training registration fees, sorry!).
If you have any questions about the workshop or its technical content, please send a note to
We are looking forward to seeing you in Madison!
