Internet2 Member Update

Internet2 Community to Gather at Fall 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting

The Fall 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting is less than a week away! When our community comes together for our annual Fall meeting, sessions will highlight the Internet2 community’s progress in assembling critical pieces of the advanced research and education networking puzzle: cyberinfrastructure, federations, middleware, network engineering, security, teaching and learning, and emerging technologies that continue to expand the bounds of research and education. Thanks to the outstanding job done by the Program Committee, this year’s meeting will reflect current areas of focus in the research and education community, serving up 70 track sessions, over 72 side meetings, 15 poster sessions (including several student posters), 9 demonstrations, and 3 workshops that address networking issues critical to researchers, educators, students and industry.

General Sessions to offer Community and National Perspectives on Advanced R&E Networking

First General Session, Tuesday, November 2, 10:30-11:45AM: The first General Session will feature H. David Lambert, recently named Internet2’s president and CEO. Lambert will describe how the forces and opportunities facing today’s research and education community are aligning Internet2’s vision and mapping its path forward.

Second General Session, Thursday, November 4, 8:30-10:00AM: Internet2 welcomes Lawrence Strickling and Lev Gonick as speakers at the second General Session. Strickling is the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information, and Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). Gonick, CIO and vice president at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, will spotlight his university’s visionary “Case Connection Zone” project, which is bringing gigabit fiber connections to underserved and impoverished Cleveland neighborhoods. Full program information is available online.

Open Governance Meetings

Attendees will again have the opportunity to see the councils in action. AOAC, AMSAC, ERAC, and RAC welcome your interest and participation. These open meetings will take place on Monday, November 1 from 2:15 - 3:00 PM. Following the open council sessions, governance leaders will convene an open meeting from 3:15 - 4:00 PM to provide an update of activities to all council members and meeting attendees. For additional detail and meeting locations, please see the meeting program.
