Hi Ty,

So my FDT server has two 10G connections to the Dell switch. One of the 10G ports is connected to the 1/xg1 on VLAN 1. VLAN 1 is used as my private VLAN. The other FDT 10 Gig port is connected to 1/xg2. The 1/xg4 port on the switch is presumably connected to AMPATH and is on VLAN 503. The 1/xg3 is unassigned and nothing is plugged in there other the SFP.

Now that 1/xg2 port is not on any VLAN at least it isn't right now, which explains why my FDT server can't be contacted by its public address. I'm pretty sure though that if I switched that port to VLAN 503 I would get access to the WAN. So its likely these OSCARS that are mucking with the settings on the switch... So I'd really like to learn what is going on. Perhaps a quick conversation would help?

My phone number is 786-325-6205 or you can send me yours.

Thanks

Regards
Jorge

Hi Jorge,

1/xg2 is what OSCARS has been using and configuring, maybe we could use 1/xg1
instead?

Hi Jorge,

Since you didn't mention it specifically...do you always save your
"running configuration" to the "startup configuration" after
configuring the port?

thanks,
Ben

Hi,

Our Dell switch has once again decided to reconfigure itself. I am not sure
what is happening but I noticed today when I couldn't access the FDT server
through its public interface (XG2) that the switch has apparently was no
longer in the configuration it needs to be in for it to work. What
discovered through the switch's management interface was that the port XG2
thats supposed to provide public access to the 10gig interface was set to
"Trunk". You get to the port through
Switching -> VLAN ->Port Settings menu. When this happens the public link
goes down on the FDT server (srm.hep.fiu.edu). I've gone ahead and rest
things as follows: Port (XG2 = Trunk) and then go to VLAN Membership
(Switching -> VLAN -> VLAN Membership) to "U" (503). Now things seem to be
working again.

So the question to you guys is 1. Is there some DYNES service or application
running somewhere that goes around and modifies switch settings? or 2. Is
this an indication that there is something wrong with the switch and I
should contact Dell to try to get them to replace it or send a fix?

This particular problem seems to happen periodically here. In the last
couple of weeks its already happened twice. The switch firmware is at
3.3.6.4. I've asked Joe to upgrade the firmware but it has happened yet.
However, its just one minor revision number behind the latest I think so its
probably not going to help much.

Regards

Jorge
