All;

As DYNES begins to wind down in anticipation of our July 31st completion
date, we wanted to make you aware of a couple of announcements related to
ongoing support.

- We have been compiling general documentation for DYNES in this public
facing wiki:

https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/dynesdoc/Home

There is a lot of information here, including how to install/configure the
control software (your instances are using DRAGON and OSCARS), administer the
software and underlying systems, and tricks that can be used to fix things if
they happen to break. Its still a work in progress, send any comments to
this list as you read through this.

- We are still going to be available to answer questions regarding
operations, but its important that you try things first (don't be afraid to
fail) before pulling the panic switch. To that end, we have set up a very
specific email alias that you will be using if you have any technical issues
with the installation or operational concerns:
"".
Please note that it is very important to use this mailing, as it generates
a ticket assigned to our tech team and affiliated with you. Please do not
mail me, or other members of the project directly (that will interfere with
tracking of problems, and delay responses).

- Everyone is encouraged to subscribe to
(https://lists.internet2.edu/sympa/subscribe/dynes-deployments) and utilize
the community mailing list:
"".
Please pass this along to other members of your campus as they begin to use
the system (operators and users)

- We are maintaining accounts to make sure things are running, but we want
you to begin the process to monitor and ensure these devices are integrated
into the environment. This means use RANCID on the switch, use NAGIOS on the
servers, get comfortable with managing the OS and software (its just Linux
under the hood).

- The OSCARS software is not unique to DYNES, and as such we do not develop
it or support it directly within this project. We are encouraging people to
join the OCARS user community
(,
join here: https://listserv.es.net/mailman/listinfo/oscars-users) for
support from the developers and users of the software directly.
Documentation is provided by the OSCARS project can be found here:

https://wiki.internet2.edu/confluence/display/DCNSS/Home

- The perfSONAR software is also not unique to DYNES. We suggest you join
the pS Performance Toolkit mailing list if you have not already done so
(https://lists.internet2.edu/sympa/subscribe/performance-node-users). Please
direct questions regarding the software to this location, we are still happy
to assist with deployment issues. Information regarding perfSONAR can be
found here:

http://psps.perfsonar.net/toolkit

As always, use the mailing lists (instead of direct emails to operational
staff) to convey questions and comments. The conversation will benefit
everyone, even if you perceive the topics as elementary.

Thanks;

-jason
