In reference to the minor issue:

The problem is that really long IDs disrupted the top bar rendering.  Benn took the sensible step of making the ID a tooltip when hovering over the user name (e.g. "Arlen Johnson" below). 

But because the name also produces a drop-down menu, the tooltip is a little confusing.  I think an improvement to this would be to a) not reveal the ID at all here or b) reveal the ID to the left of the name, visible only when hovering over the name.  Like so:

The ID would be absolutely positioned so that no part of the upper bar would be disrupted when it appears other than covering up items under it, such as the Platform menu.  While covering up the Platform menu isn't best, it will reappear when no longer hovering on the name or ID. 

The behavior will closely associate the id with the name due to proximity and styling, and hovering over either (while the ID is visible) will maintain the user drop-down menu.

If we had a user account preferences page, I'd suggest just showing the ID there (but we don't have that :-).

Again, this is a minor issue, but I wanted to get your opinions before I changed it.
