I promised, as they were closing the plane door, to send out the VOMS pointers.

The issue isn't that the acronym is taken (all the good ones are by now), but that it occupies a space close to ours. It is used, and being developed, I think, heavily in Europe and legacy VOMS serve TG and OSG users. Users of VOMS are generally unhappy with their current approach (fragile, limited, complex, etc.) and an alternative to VOMS would be welcome in that community. COmanage with an X.509 output mechanism could do this, and that's doable, but I don't think it is a priority now. Though it would be a big win...
If we want a generic term here, and I think we do, I've been calling these comanage type things "collaboration management platforms" (CMP, not taken yet as an acronym in our space) though they aren't really that. big points, or a t-shirt to someone who comes up with a better name. extra big points, or a long sleeve t-shirt, to the name having the acronym GEARs :)
