Folks,
This note is a follow-up to conversations that many of us had at the Internet2 meeting last week about how to re-structure the conversations given the growing interest and diversity of participants.
We agreed to separate the discussions into two places - domesticating apps versus comanage itself as appliance/service.
1. There is broad interest (now including OZ from Duke, the Australians, the French Sympa work, etc) in domesticating apps, even if we use different technologies (LDAP, SAML, etc) for domestication. That "work group" will be called CollabIdM. It will have a list and a wiki (managed, gasp, by me using Comanage.) and maybe a netmeeting. Content will focus on domestication, such as following up on the good conversation we had about where these growing number of CMP choices need to be consistent, building some kind of registry service to share domesticated apps, etc.
We will set up monthly real-time calls to work for the Euros as well as the US, and wish Australia well, sigh. We'll fold the existing occasional international collab activity into this WG.
2. The Comanage on and off week conversations will merge into comanage-dev, discussing both the COmanage service and the appliance, with a bit of overlap with the domestication WG as we talk about apps, but not much. (when we talk about the apps, we may be talking about using them as well, versus just plumbing.) This "work group" will inherit the comanage-dev name and this list and the usual call slot of every other Friday at 2 pm et.
Some of us will want to be on both calls/lists, but many won't. We'll try to separate folks manually via the Steveo Infinite Database into COmanage/CollabIdm/Both categories and begin to disentangle the lists, etc. For those going to the CollabIdM WG, we'll ask you to register at the CMP co.internet2.edu, just the way we want the world to work.
We can confirm this plan on the dev call tomorrow.
Ken
