Hi folks,

Bad connectivity yesterday (I should have done it from the Kellogg Center before I left). A couple of things. Mike Grady from UofI said that he will push for us doing something CIC wide (he, Renee Shuey, Jim Green, Matt Kolb and a couple of others we know are on the CIC IAM group, so that might be the place to start). He would especially like for the CIC instance to exist in the AWS space. That's what the meat of my talk was about: how Chris has created/deployed public Amazon Machine Images (AMIs). Mike and a few other CIC institutions are having a hard time hammering out a contract with Amazon. He believes that since Penn State is doing it, they only have to agree with Penn State (which they do for most things ;-). So when Renee, Chris, and I can get together, maybe we can plan the instance of COmanage for CIC. By the way, Renee has been pushing for this for a while. The CIC IAM group is a long standing VO. There are others like the CIC research computing group that are in the IT purview and even more in libraries and financial, but we should start with those folks we know.

I included Michael Pelikan on this, because Jim Green from MSU spoke in the same session as me about their Shibb deployment. They have a situation where the Registrar's Office maintains an additional attribute authority (a situation where they get attributes from their administrative computing and also from the Registrar's Office). The RO serves up eduCourse attributes to a provisioning system. I told Matt Kolb and Jim Green that Michael P is proposing some mods to eduCourse. He said that wouldn't mess them up because they would probably continue to use that subset defined by the current eduCourse until they could evaluate if they needed the newer attributes. Interesting. He was under the impression that Chicago used eduCourse. Do you Tom?

Sorry this is late, but I was pretty sleep deprived by this trip (and other changes in my life lately ;-).

Jim
