Folks,
I can't make the call if there is one, unfortunately, but there are still further things afoot to at least share with folks:
The next stonesoup meeting (aka common solutions), an in-person meeting at UCSD in January, is built on three long (1/2 day) workshops. Two of them are identity management/silver/affiliates and collaboration management platforms (COmanage, Google wave, Adobe Connect, Sharepoint). Michael got us into this, but that it was a top vote getter is a sign of the broad interest.
I think it is reasonable now (given the generally positive InCommon future steps recently) to have the audacity of hope around the service that Michael is crafting. That hope should shape out a plan for how would we "pilotize" the service (in terms of dreaming a support model - not necessarily TSG- and who would be the pilots for the service.). We know of at least one reasonable customer, the GENI PMO, and the VO's I've been working (though only one would want a service rather than a framework.)
My answer to Michael's question of what are we selling depends on to whom :) (I am marketing.) iPlant and GENI want a service. LIGO wants to understand what we're doing and build their own, starting from their strength in Grouper. OOI wants the framework like LIGO, and then may build their own custom appliance for some odd architecture they have. When we get to the conversations with NSF CIO, I think they will want the framework. (Where framework means - user supplies LDAP store, installs the piece parts of COmanage, pick up some apps from the list of domesticated ones, go install them in their COmanage configuration, reads how to domesticate some of their local apps and does so, grabs our spectacular GUI :) etc. -). Is that reasonable?
As for the sessions at the member meeting, I think the split that Heather suggested -
"Monday doing a demo and discussion of the collaboration space in general, and wednesday inviting use cases and talking about design?" is good - we may have more geeks on Monday and CIO's on Wed and so a demo might be good on Wed as well.
And the COmanage use case for the Tao workshop (see http://middleware.internet2.edu/tao-of-attributes/ and note it is webcast if you are interested). represents COmanage as an attribute authority death star, spewing attributes into IdP's and SP's and portals...
I've got the regular COmanage call next Friday on my calendar.
