Actually the grouper logo was designed by a graphic arts professional then-employed by Internet2. The result, especially compared to the chicken-generated precursor (gulping fish - icthy!), makes me urge us to leave this to professionals.

Folks,
As we ramp up the COmanage effort, there's a small bit of marketing that invites your participation. It's around the logo and tag line for COmanage.
Right now, the placeholder graphic is the one attached in the slide (a gear with an orange C in it) with the tag line that COmanage is "collaboration gear" - something that with a single crank (or cranky user) drives the IdM in many different applications. Clearly marketing did this before the martinis for inspiration...
One option is for us chickens on comanage-dev to come up with something else or bless the gear. The Shib logo and the Grouper logo were done by chickens.
Another option is to use a branding company. Internet2 hired a company to do InCommon (http://www.incommonfederation.org/). I was real pleased with the result (even the unibrow :)), but it wasn't cheap or quick.
Comments? Other options? The default, sigh, is the gear...
