COMMUNITY UPDATES

Dear CLASS Community, it’s a short update for this cycle but a very important one related to CLASS Advanced!

NEWS

The revamped CLASS Advanced program will kick off April 3rd, 2023. CLASS Advanced is one of the only learning programs existing that offers a well-rounded overview of tools and services from three public cloud-providers: AWS, GCP, and Azure. In two intensive weeks, you will learn how to compare cloud services and tools, the pros and cons of each cloud provider, and insights that can help you advocate, design, and maintain research workflows for a particular cloud. Applications close tomorrow!

CLASS Advanced is also looking for community mentors to help lead projects. These projects will be collated into an open-source playbook that the community can work together on! Some of the projects that we will be building during the program include: (1) Creating site-to-site virtual private network (VPN) connection using Internet Protocol security (IPSec) between AWS and GCP (2) Deploying Jupyterhubs with scalable compute nodes on all three cloud providers using Terraform and utilizing GKE, EKS and AKS (3) Monitoring and logging using pre-configured cloud tools and serverless and more. Mentors/leads can choose to either have their Professional Cloud Architect certifications paid for by Internet2 or receive a gift basket of choice - it’s one your neighbors will be envious of, I promise! Registration is now open for the 2023 Community Exchange conference! If you are interested in helping shape policy, and influence development of tools that support the research and education community, Community Exchange provides that networking and discussion platform! The event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 8-11, 2023
