Dear CLASS Community, I cannot believe we are almost at the end of the first month of 2023! We have plenty of upcoming events over the next several months that I am incredibly excited to share in the hope that you will be able to participate! 

NEWS

• REMINDER: There are only a few spots remaining for the AWS Solutions Architect-Associates Certification learning pathway. Join Notre Dame faculty member Sharif Nijim as he leads the cohort through nine-weeks of AWS deep dive that culminates in certification preparedness. The session begins February 6 so reserve your spots today!

• Another round of CLASS Essentials has been scheduled: AWS on Feb. 28, GCP on Mar. 1 and Microsoft Azure on Mar. 2. This introductory course to research on the cloud will walk participants through the basics of spinning up a virtual machine, provisioning object storage and utilizing code on Github. 

• I am incredibly excited to announce that a revised CLASS Advanced program will debut with a new format on April 3rd, 2023 and run for two weeks. In the first week, participants will learn cloud native technologies from Sujee Maniyam, Big Data expert and technical instructor at Elephant Scale. Examples of topics to be covered include multi-cloud deployment using Terraform, container orchestration in the cloud using Kubernetes, and utilizing serverless computing for account monitoring. In the second week, participants will put what they learn to the test by working together in small groups on a proposed project that is relevant to challenges faced by the research IT community. The end goal of the projects is to build reproducible and scalable solutions that the cohort will share openly on Github and collate into an open-source architectural playbook. The cost to participate is $2,500 for Internet2 members. Registration will open on February 10! Stay tuned for more information. 

• The inaugural Internet2/Microsoft Azure Accelerator Program was held from Oct. 5 - Nov. 7 2022! You can watch the final presentation here. 

• Registration is now open for the 2023 Community Exchange conference! If you are interested in helping shape policy, and influence development of tools that support the research and education community, Community Exchange provides that networking and discussion platform! The event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from May 8-11, 2023

• Another event that may be of interest to the community: On February 15, NET+ and Amazon Omics are collaborating on a townhall for research decision-makers, researchers, and RCD team members who want to learn how Amazon Omics can accelerate research, support large-scale analysis, and generate insights to improve health and advance scientific discoveries. Register today!
