Dear 2019 Tempe Principals’ Meeting Attendees,

Please watch the box folder (https://internet2.box.com/s/9gux1tlopkc6f8hkudkww08ixbw9fbzg) for updates on the meeting. The current roster of attendees is there. More documents will be added soon.

Here is a note from George regarding the meeting:

We would like to thank you for registering to attend the Connector and Network Member Principals meeting to be held in Tempe, AZ on Tuesday, January 15 and Wednesday, January 16.  We are pleased to note that we have over 35 community members planning to attend, including all of the members of the NAOPpag subcommittee that is helping us develop new service models under the Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) project.  This is our fourth annual gathering of this group in Tempe, and the previous three meetings have been notable for the direct impact your recommendations have had in shaping Internet2's direction and actions.  For example, last year we agreed to form the Router Slicing proof of concept effort and the Routed Services Future working group -- both of which have provided valuable input to our Next Generation Infrastructure (NGI) planning efforts.

When we gather in 2019, we will focus the conversation on what Service Models we should develop with the deployment of NGI over the next year.   We have not had the opportunity as a community to review the services offered and the financial models to sustain them since 2012.  We will use this gathering to discuss potential service models to address the current and future infrastructure needs of the R&E community.  We plan to divide the discussion into three parts:

·        Morning Day 1

o   Current operating environment

o   Ideas on how to address current challenges with NGI

o   Assumptions for funding new Service Models

·       Afternoon Day 1

o   Discussion of suggested modifications to existing services

§  Break out session to gather feedback follows

o   Discussion of new services enabled by NGI

§  Break out session to gather feedback follows

·       Morning Day 2

o   Presentation  - a campus view of Cloud Adoption by David Seidl - CIO, Miami University - Ohio

o   Discussion of services required to provide end to end platform to support cloud integration for research and enterprise applications, and the skills gap to be addressed.

o   Next Steps

We will ask the members of the NAOPpag NGI Service Models Subcommittee to join the breakout sessions throughout the meeting so they can gather input from you on how to best implement the new service models.  We expect these break-out sessions to be organic, and want to provide you the opportunity to talk with your colleagues whether they be from your neighboring states,  are part of the same connector, or have another affinity with your organization.

We will send you an information packet at least a week before the meeting with some background reading to prepare for these important discussions.  We have found doing so allows folks to arrive prepared for a vibrant and fruitful conversation that gives us the guidance we will need to ensure our regional members get the value they need from the NGI implementation to deliver to their member communities.
